Your first step includes your body language.  Use your body language to make the other person feel at ease (comfortable).  To achieve this smile, tilt your head to the side, and do not cross your arms.  These are all signs of openness, which allows the other person to become at ease.

The next step is to gauge how relaxed the other person is.  Do see how relaxed they are, feel the palm of their hands.  If there hands are tight or cold then the person is not comfortable.

Another way to gauge how relaxed the other person is  -- is to study their face.  Look at the area around the eyes.  If the person is smiling but it does not show in and around the eyes the person is faking comfort.

Now on to mind read.  First make a general statements like "You are worried about something".  This kind of statement is called fishing.  Fishing statements usually apply to majority, not the minority.  Another good fishing statement is -- "You are concern about a relationship".

Now that you have fished for a subject matter, make sure your ears are open.  Listening for clues to add to your "Mind Reading" results.  Remember, listening includes looking for body language signs too.
