Cleopatra Queen of the Nile

In true "Woman Power" Cleopatra was the Queen of the Nile, the ruler over Egypt. As a savvy ruler, Queen Cleopatra ruled with some of the most powerful men of her day. Cleopatra is such a legendary figure that countless of movies and books have been written about her life. Not to mention that we are still talking about her 2,000 some odd years later. However, with all the books and movies the debated question of today is "Was Cleopatra Black"? Was Cleopatra an African Queen?

Before Cleopatra's sister's bones were discovered many people thought Cleopatra was Greek with European ancestry. Here's a theory why there is a debate on Cleopatra's race. Many royal families of the time wanted to preserve their bloodline, so inter-breeding was popular. However, sometimes concubines were from other places. Cleopatra's father's mother was believed to be a concubine. Could this be why Cleopatra and her siblings have some African ancestry? Some historians report that Cleopatra's grandmother was a concubine from Nubia.

I guess, whether Cleopatra was black or not doesn't matter now. Although, as a black woman, having a legendary figure like Cleopatra same ancestry just makes you feel good inside.

Yes indeed. BBC did reported the find on the Cleopatra skeleton remains. I thought it was a little racist... since I'm a fan of Cleopatra.

Why is there such a debate over this women? She was a horrible murderer who is believed to have ordered the death of many including her own sister. She also slept with any man who had power so she could bare their children so she would also have power. She is not a figure to idolize

I would like to point out that cleopatra had a different mother to her sister here thus the african DNA is not proof positive in going to be in cleopatra as well the only definitively same DNA that would have been shared is that of the Ptolemy greek macadonian as that is going to be from the father

No matter what, I doubt she was as pale as Liz Taylor or Angelina Jolie.

Cleopatra was not black. She was the last of the Ptolemic dynasty which was pure Greek. And she had a different mother than her sister. She was actiually described as pale and blue eyed.

Also if you look at every ancient depiction of Cleopatra, she is white.

All of Cleopatra's? siblings shared different mothers and the same father. While it is possible that her sister may have Black African blood, Cleopatra did not and it has been proven time and time again that she was white. She was pure Greek

How would she be queen of Egypt, if she Greek..give it up she was black or mixed. It's no way she was all white

Deana 7 months ago

Cleo was a shemite read your bible shemites are of ethiopian heritage, she was not mixed there was no one to mix with, she was a gorgeous big booty and hip curvy black women with copper skin like the rest of us I mean come on who else bad enough to slaughter 100 men in bed a night and make the white man mark julius and the rest of em sail all the way over here and forget what the hell they came over to egypt for. We can swduce a man and change his mind . See the reason they came to egypt for in the first place was to seuze the land but my sista put it on him or them and them white boys couldnt handle it.
